RESOURCE LINKS	There are several excellent web pages which provide information and resources for the Transgender community as well as a number of support groups in and around Austin. We've listed some of these here and update them periodically as we learn of more.

GENERAL INFORMATION

• Notes on Gender Transition
  The intent of this page is to address the psychotherapeutic issues surrounding the expression of gender in individuals with Gender Identity Disorder. There are five headings; Practicum, Essays,T Notes, Guest Speaker,and Reference Information.

• The Saint Louis Gender Foundation
  StLGF is a resource group for crossdressers, transgenderists, transsexuals, androgynous individuals, and those who care about them. The organization reaches out to all gender conflicted adults and significant others regardless of race, religion, biologic sex, marital status, or sexual orientation. By providing a nurturing atmosphere, we encourage personal growth and,self-acceptance, and provide opportunities for making new friends.

• State-by-State Resources
  An alphabetical, state by state listing of transgender resources. (Thanks to Jamie for permission to reference this.)

• The Transgender Resource Guide
  A good source for on-line information about the various aspects of cross-dressing and sources for clothing, shoes, wigs, etc.

• The International Foundation for Gender Education.
  A more academic organization, the IFGE provides a lot of good research material, as well as providing support for serious inestigation of TG issues.

• The Tennessee Vals.
  Information about Tennessee's group (located in Nashville) with some good pointers to other places.

• Delta Omega / Metroplex CD Club.
  Social/Support Group for Crossdressers in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area.

• Transgendered Disabled Veterans
  The Transgendered Disabled Veterans group is part of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, & Transgendered Disabled Veterans of America which is dedicated to assuring that Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, & Transgendered Disabled Veterans receive benefits and services on a par with male & female heterosexual veterans, encounter no discrimination in their attempt to access these services, are treated with respect and dignity by VA service providers, and to act as the primary advisor to the Secretary for Veterans Affairs on all matters related to programs, issues, & initiatives for and affecting Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, & Transgendered Disabled Veterans.

• The Survivor Project
  The website contains a number of resources that are available at no cost, such as articles that discuss the specific barriers and issues facing transgendered survivors of family violence. The director is Diana Courvant.

LOCAL RESOURCES

• Transgender Advocates of Central Texas (TACT)
  Transgender Advocates of Central Texas (TACT) is an advocacy group dedicated to furthering the cause of gender diverse people in Central Texas.

• ALLGO
  Founded in 1985 by Latina and Latino activists, scholars and artists, ALLGO has over the years grown to become a Queer People of Color organization, which is reflected in its programming, staff, board, and community. As such, ALLGO is the longest-standing organization of its kind in the United States, and quite possibly in the world. ALLGO's Cultural Arts, Health adn Community Organizing intiatives stem from and move within a social justice framework that work toward an envisioned world of liberation for all of us.

  Alpha Tau is the local chapter of Tri-Ess,a family-oriented support group for heterosexual cross dressers, spouses, partners and family members. (For more information, check out our Tri-Ess Home Page or call [512] 331-5147.)

• American Educational Gender Information Service, Inc.
  AEGIS is dedicated to serving the needs of ALL transgendered and transsexual persons, and of helping professionals. We promote nonjudgemental treatment and depathologicalization (now there’s a word for you!) of persons with transgender and transsexual issues. We seek to do so in an atmosphere of respect and toleration. AEGIS has worked within the medical and psychological communities to enlighten helping professionals about the shortcomings of much of the literature, and to the misunderstandings about the nature of transgendered and transsexual persons which that literature has fostered. AEGIS celebrates the true diversity of transgendered and transsexual persons, and advocates the right of the individual to seek body-modifying procedures, up to and including sex reassignment surgery. We also advocate the right of the individual to live without such procedures. We believe that with adequate education, individuals can make competent decisions about their lives.
